Lync external not working for autodiscover

Hello All.

I'm having troubles with Auto Detect on my iPad (all users are).

Details:
Lync 2010 Server Standard 4.0.7557.0

Problem:
when users connect their iPads in the office Wi-Fi - Auto Detect is working correctly.
Settings configured are:  "https://web.company.com" for both external & internal

when users disconnect their iPads for Wi-Fi and leave the office.  It does not connect.

Troubleshooting.

  • I've exported 2 certificates from the FQDN \ Server Certificate store. Exported to PFX files and emailed them to the users. The iPad then installed the certificates. found here
  • I also ran  the following test found here: LINK - ran the website in my browser and a download came up. This was the results.
    {"AccessLocation":"Internal","Root":{"Links":[{"href":"https:\/\/FQDN\/Autodiscover\/AutodiscoverService.svc\/root\/domain","token":"Domain"},{"href":"https:\/\/FQDN\/Autodiscover\/AutodiscoverService.svc\/root\/user","token":"User"}]}}
    Now I'm aware that it should say "External" not "Internal" but have no clue how to change it!
  • iPad works if  you manually enter https://FQDN\Autodiscover\AutodiscoverService.svc\rootBUT users will receive sending errors that it cannot connect the server.

I'm sure DNS is configured incorrectly somewhere or IIS is binding internal & external autodiscover but again, A little direction or assistance is much appreciated.

Ask away if I didn't explain things clearly enough.
Thanks.
