Lync 2013- GUI hangs and freezes frequently for about 3 seconds

For few months now, several users, including myself, have been experiencing an issue where Lync 2013 (client) freezes for about 3 seconds while interacting with the GUI such as typing in a chat or searching for a user. This isn't affecting many, but several are experiencing this. I ran process explorer and found this stack to continuously spike each time it hangs.
