We are currently using Lync 2010/Exchange 2010 SP3. At this time, it is an ‘in house’ application only, meaning no federation and it is just deployed for IM and presence. I’m now being asked to federate with outside clients and to enable other features of Lync (video chat, desktop sharing). One of the issues surrounding this is the saving of conversation history which will be needed for legal reasons. I know how to configure this, but I have some other questions I can’t seem to find answers for.
What exactly is saved to the Conversations History fold in Outlook? I know the text of IM conversations is saved. What about transferred files? Are the files themselves saved or just the chat window activity that show the file transfer activity and file name? What about desktop sharing and video chats? What information is captured in the conversation history concerning these activities?
Also, are the contents of the Conversation History folder in the Outlook client considered when Exchange calculates the mailbox size – for mailbox quotas? I also assume the mailbox owner can delete the contents of the folder at any time. Can the contents be auto achieved or in some other way protected from deletion??
Thanks
