Cannot sign in because the server is temporarily unavailable (Lync 2010)

Hi Everyone,

I'm having the dreaded "Cannot sign in because the server is temporarily unavailable" error on my new Lync install. I've read lots about this online and nothing seems to have fixed the errors. Here's what I've done so far:

1) Installed lync 2010 (with certs etc)
2) Tested the lync client on the local lync server - worked fine
3) Tested lync client on another server -  got the "Cannot sign in because the server is temporarily unavailable"

I have:

1) a user setup in Lync 2010 as lync1@externaldomain.com, the UPN is lync1.internaldomain.local.
2) a DNS record _sipinternaltls._tcp.internaldomain.local. Port 5061. Host: pool1.internaldomain.local
3) a DNS record _sipinternal._tcp.internaldomain.local. Port 5061. Host: pool1.internaldomain.local
4) a DNS record _sip._tls.internaldomain.local. Port 5061. Host: pool1.internaldomain.local
5) a DNS CNAME record lyncdiscover.externaldomain.com points to lyncserver.internaldomain.local
6) DNS records admin, pool1 and sip .internaldomain.com
7) DNS records admin, pool1 and sip .externaldomain.com

Using this setup I try to use the Lync client on a workstation and get the error above. I've tried manually specifying the server as pool1.internaldomain.local and that fails too.

Can anyone see anything obvious I've done wrong here or have any ideas what I can try here?

Thanks,

Tom
