Lync 2010 strips pause commas and errors on '#'

I have to dial a bunch of standard conference numbers all the time and have the whole strings setup in Contacts, and sometimes have to dial them manually.

Example:

• 866-449-2829,,649-188-2777#,,,,*,,136489#

The problem is that Lync Phone

• strips out all the commas
• Won't even attempt to dial if a '#' is in the string
• And errors on the subsequent long string of numbers after it strips out the commas

• 86644928296491882777136489

How do you get the Lync phone client to accepts pauses and the '#' key in a Contact's entry or manually when pasted into dialer?
