Mac Lync 2011 14.0.7 crashes frequently

Mavericks 10.9.1 MBP6,2 15" mid-2010, 8GB RAM, SSD HDD

Overall I quite like Lync - when it works. Have used Lync on Win7, and WebEx Connect on Mac and Win, and overall most integration points are good (too bad about the local history vs Exchange history in Win Client), voice features work very well. Screen sharing does tend to be very slow and desperately needs more scaling options -- too often when the other party is showing is 2-3 orders of magnitude too small, and there is no way to zoom/scale. Meeting integration with Outlook Mac is pretty good.

Lync crashes very frequently. I have tried a clean uninstall per the TN article and roll back to 14.0.6, and further clean uninstall and reinstall 14.0.7 all to to improvements. At this point I'm getting 5-15 crashes in an active business day of 10-15 hours. Here are some conditions that I have seen.

  • Lync crashes on incoming call
  • Lync starts forwarding calls to my mobile even though the setting is no-forwarding, later crashes
  • Lync will stop making any sounds on the output device (chat, call, etc), when checked, the settings are correct. Sometimes exercising the settings will restore sound. Sometimes need to stop/start Lync. This one has not been associated directly with any crashes AFAIK.
  • Lync crashes hard with several active chats -- all history is lost (can Lync flush chat buffers to disk every minute maybe?)
  • All Lync windows will disappear, and when Lync app is brought into focus you only get a spinning-wheel-of-death. Force quitting Lync is necessary
  • Lync will crash when disconnecting my wireless logitech headset occasionally

Overall this MBP runs very smoothly. Lync is about the only app that crashes. I have fsck'd in su and rebuilt spotlight indexes. Disk is not full. RAM is rarely overtaxed, same with CPU.
