I use keyboard shortcuts all the time.
One that I am beginning to miss already in Windows 8 is Windows Key + Q.
If you have Lync installed, try it now. It brings the Lync Contact window into focus and places your cursor in the search & dial box.
For obvious reasons, this keyboard shortcut is great.
- I can quickly search my contacts, both Lync and Outlook, and see contact details and presence or make a call.
- I can quickly dial a number.
Windows 8 has "commandeered" the shortcut. It will bring up the new (formerly known as metro) Start Menu and display all the installed programs, rather than just tiles.
Yes, that is useful for Windows 8 users. Though they could just press the Start key and begin to type the name of the program they want. That's much easier than searching a large list.
So, is the Lync / Office team going to register a new Windows Key shortcut to bring the Lync Contact window to the surface?
