Lync 2013 Desktop does not start on WIndows 8.1

My Office 365 version of Lync 2013 64bit crashes every time I start it.  There is no error message just the "Microsoft Lync has stopped working" message with Close option.  In further looking for a solution, I found the suggestion to uninstall the Intel Bluetooth drivers but my system uses Realtek Filter drivers.  I have looked  in the event logs and found:

Office 365 ProPlus Lync Client - Crash after start

$

Like others it seems a recent update has caused Lync to continuously crash after it starts and connects. I installed a lot of updates on Monday this week. Before this Lync would work perfectly all day every day. After installing the updates Lync does not work at all. This is a Windows 8.1 Enterprise (non update 1), 64bit Dell laptop.

I've completed the following:

  • Completed a simple and thorough repair of Office
  • Uninstalled, restarted, reinstalled Office (downloaded from O365 portal)
  • Trawled error logs and I have a SideBySide error which indicates that something is referencing AMD64 but I have x86 installed
  • I do have SharePoint Designer 2007 and 2010 installed, although all are 32 bit
  • I don't have any other version of Office
  • Uninstalled the latest Lync 2013 updates installed by Windows Update - KB2899507

From doing some research there are certainly other people who have the same error as me. I also see some people have fixed it by completing a repair of Windows, I'm not able to do this and I think is just masking the error which will no doubt happen again.

Anyone from Microsoft able to offer any actual fixes for this?

SideBySide Error

Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15\lync.exe.Manifest".Error in manifest or policy file "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15\UccApi.DLL" on line 1. Component identity found in manifest does not match the identity of the component requested. Reference is UccApi,processorArchitecture="AMD64",type="win32",version="15.0.0.0". Definition is UccApi,processorArchitecture="x86",type="win32",version="15.0.0.0". Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.

Need help identifying servers and autoconfiguration scripts

I have just started a new job and the previous admin left no info. We are preparing for a migration to Lync and Exchange 2013 upgrade

I noticed that the OCS 2007 R2 client says automatic configuration  in the advanced server options

I need to know how to locate the autoconfiguration script and which server my user is on.

I have looked at both 2007 OCS servers but do not see my user and suspect there is another server with users on it.

Where do I look? the autoconfig script should help me find what server , correct?

Thanks in advance...

Lync 2013 client with 2010 Server. GAL users showing up Presence Unknown

I installed my first Windows 8.1 computer with Office 2013 Pro. This comes with Lync 2013 so I figured I would just run with it. We have a Lync 2010 server with SQL 2008 R2 database server.

For some reason, users that are in my contact list will show their presence, but if I type in a name into the search, all users that show up there from my GAL show Presence Unknown.  I have also tried to add those users to my contact list but that does not work either.

Is it possible to disable 'Lync 2013' options inside of Outlook 2010? If so, how?

I would like to disable/eliminate everything Lync 2013 related inside of my Outlook 2010.  I want to disassociate all its relations with Outlook, but keep it everywhere else.

More specifically, in Outlook, I'd like to keep the original (pre-Lync) option of knowing where persons are (i.e. 'Free', 'Busy until 4:00pm', etc). This option is shown when you open a new email, add a recipient, and hover over their name. It would normally say things like 'Busy until 4:00pm' or 'Free'. Now it just says their Lync location (ex. 'Presence Unknown' since most of the company does not have Lync), and I need it to go back to the original setting.

I also dislike the 'Frequent Contacts' option, so if that could go away, that'd be great.

Things I've already tried so far:

  • In Outlook: Disabling the Outlook Lync Add-in 'Lync Meeting Add-in'
  • In Lync:
    • Personal/Personal Information Manager - Changing drop-down to NONE (from Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft Outlook)
    • Personal/Location - Unchecking 'Share my location info with other programs I use'
    • Contacts List - Unchecking 'Contact Status'

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Lync Window & Text Size

Besides the usual 'click and drag' to change the horizontal & vertical, how can I change the window and font size of the Lync user window. I have a laptop and the lync window is entirely to large to remain open. I've made it as small as I can and it still takes up 1/3 the screen.....

Lync 2013 Web App Plug-in Install Prompting for Credentials via UAC

$

We are running into a strange problem with the Lync 2013 Web App Plug-in all of a sudden prompting our users for credentials via UAC when the plug-in installs.  We were told that the plug-in is a per-user installation and does not require admin rights to install as long as we add *.lync.com to our trusted sites list and provide UDP/TCP firewall domain access for the plug-in executable (lwaplugin.exe).

As seen in the attached screen shots we are seeing a strange UAC prompt during the MSI plug-in install which the user initiates after downloading the MSI from Lync meeting web page (infra.lync.com) the first time they go to join a meeting.  We see this issue for both the 32-bit and 64-bit Lync Web App Plug-in MSI installation packages. What is really strange is the "D:\Users\rtbldlab\AppData\Local\..." program name which seems to indicate a problem with the MSA package...

32-bit Installer...

64-bit Installer...

It should also be noted that we are using a tool similar to AppLocker for application whitelisting and have whitelisted the (4) Lync Web App executables (LWAPlugin.exe, LWAVersionPlugin.exe, AppSharingHookController.exe and AppSharingHookController64.exe).

Any assistance or guidance would be greatly appreciated!!

JJ

Hi We just made a change to our certificate our internal and external uri;s are mail.domain.com and autodiscover.domain.com. the problem we are having now is that our internal domain is domain.local. the certificate on the exchange server is server.domain.local the subject from the CA.

My dns has mail and autodiscover a records to the exchange server and an _autodiscover srv record to the exchange server but since the change we lost integration from lync client to outlook.

Any ideas on how to fix this? i was thinking setting up a reverse proxy for the the external url and moving the internal back to server.domain.local but if there is something quicker it would be appreciated

thanks

Cancel a call transfer in Lync 2013

Hi,

Is it possible to cancel a transferred call using either the Lync 2010 or 2013 clients, either because the call isn't being answered or you've selected the wrong contact to transfer to.

Unless the user does a consultative transfer this seems impossible so all tips gratefully received.

Thanks

Is there a way in Communicator to disable Esc from closing a conversation window or to provide at least a warning/confirmation box?  Maybe there's a way to unassign/reassign the key..?

Lync 2013 blank window when trying to change Persistent Chat notification options

I'm trying to figure out an issue that seems to be affecting a lot of our users.  The majority of our users are using the Lync 2013 Basic client.  For some people when they are in a Persistent chat room and they go under the options for that room and click on Change Notification Settings the window that opens up will be completely blank.  For other users it works perfectly fine for the same rooms, and for the ones broken it doesn't seem to work correctly for any room.  Has anyone seen this before or have any ideas what might be causing it?
